‘Money’ Floyd pooh-poohs Pacquiao’s Draw, P4P Status

MANILA, Philippines – Comebacking Floyd “Money" Mayweather, Jr. maintains he is still boxing’s top moneymaker and the pound-for-pound king, not Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao.

In an ESPN video interview posted at doghouseboxing.com, Mayweather said the numbers of his PPV buys and unblemished ring record alone speak for this.

“They don’t call me Floyd "Money" Mayweather for nothing. You already know that I’m gonna raid the bank everytime I go out there," the outspoken fighter said.

He boasted that Pacquiao’s PPV showing pales in comparison to his.

“I don’t recall Pacquiao in two fights doing 3.5 million homes and generate $250 million in one hour? I’ve done more in my Hatton fight!" he said.

Mayweather is climbing back into the ring after over a year of “retirement," battling Mexican warrior and Pacquiao’s old rival Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18.

“In this fight (with Marquez), I’m making more than they (Pacquiao and Hatton) made together (in their last fight," he said.

Mayweather Jr. retired after disposing of Hatton in 2007 and since then, the Pacman has taken reign as the new mythical pound-for-pound king.

With Mayweather’s return, the debate for the P4P top dog is now raging.

To “Money" Floyd, it’s still his, just compare their records.

“Who beat me?" an irked Mayweather said. “Have Pacquiao ever been beaten? He’s been beat three times and knocked out two times and had 2 draws. I was champ for 10 years; when he was getting knocked out I was dominating."

In the end, Mayweather said he didn’t care whether people consider the Filipino superstar, not himself, as the best fighter in the planet.

“Pacquiao can be called the best pound-for-pound, you can just call me the cash king. You know stats don’t lie. I don’t fight for bragging rights, I fight for checks!" he said.

A blockbuster showdown between P4P superstars Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr. has been highly-anticipated by fight fans and experts. But business considerations may spoil this dream duel as both Pacquiao and Mayweather would likely ask for the bigger share of the purse.

And Mayweather would not hesitate to walk away if Pacquiao insists on getting the lion’s share.

“I’m the cash cow and I’m not out there chasing no fights, man," he said. “All roads lead to Floyd Mayweather. I’m not here to chase Pacquiao. Pacquiao needs me, I don’t need him. With or without Pacquiao, my legacy is I’m going on as one of the best."
