Marquez Continues Rant Versus Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Juan Manuel Marquez continues to go at it against nemesis Manny Pacquiao even while he’s pitching for his upcoming fight with comebacking Floyd Mayweather Jr., PhilBoxing reported Tuesday.

During Monday’s fan rally in Los Angeles, “Dinamita" renewed his dig at Pacquiao, whom he had fought in two close contests, escaping with a draw despite three knockdowns in their first gig and dropping a close split decision in his super-featherweight title defense last year.

Feeling he truly won the last fight, Marquez had since embarked on a chase for Pacquiao, to the point of coming over to the Philippines to challenge the Pacman for a third gig. The Mexican warrior had also moved up in weight like Pacquiao, beating lightweight biggies Joel Casamayor and Juan Diaz.

“Pacquiao keeps running from me," a confident Marquez said before fans and the media, as quoted by PhilBoxing’s Granville Ampong. “And he does not want to face me a third time; he just keeps running away."

With Pacquiao saying their business is over, new undisputed lightweight champ Marquez instead challenged then retired Mayweather Jr, whom he described as the real pound-for-pound king apparently to spite current P4P holder Pacquiao.

“I decided to fight the very, very best and that is Floyd Mayweather," Marquez said.

A three-division titlist, Marquez is set to duke it out with Mayweather on July 18 in Las Vegas in a catch weight of 143 pounds.

Pacquiao, who is fresh from his eye-popping two-round KO of erstwhile light-welterweight boss Ricky Hatton to cement his claim to the P4P throne, is said to be interested in fighting the winner of the Marquez-Mayweather showdown.

The Filipino ring icon is also reportedly eyeing a duel with Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. and even Edwin Valero for his next outing, possibly in October.
